New Year's Day

Nice to wake naturally, no alarm clock, Paul not telling me to get up; but I was still up a little after 7:00, late for me.
I baked this today.

...the ham I got at work for Christmas, and cooked blackeyed peas. Then Paul and I went to Jonesboro to see "The Blind Side." Very, very good. Paul has listened to Sean Touhy for some time on sports talk radio so he was familiar with the story. And I didn't know Houston Nutt (formerly at Arkansas) was at Ole Miss and coached Michael Oher, that it was so recent. Sandra Bullock did a great job; really all the cast was very good. Tim McGraw as Sean Touhy and the little boy who played Sean, Jr. ... The daughter/actress I think has Elizabeth Taylor eyes. She reminded me a lot of her especially as a very young girl.

Paul and I filled up on popcorn, Diet Coke (him) and Dr. Pepper (me), but we were cold by the time we got out and started home, so we stopped and he got coffee and I got a hot chocolate. So good! The ham and peas were good for supper an hour later. I left corn bread cooking while Paul went to City Hall and Cogbill on cemetery business, and I walked Oscar. It was all heated and done when we got back to the house.

Paul had taped a Huckabee show where Mike H interviewed the Touhy family and we watched that.

He called Mama Nick and wished her Happy New Year. We heard from Amy, but haven't from Sher today. (We talked last night before she went out to a NY party.)

Washing up, dishwasher on, swishing around; bed to make; warm shirt on and ready to curl up in the recliner for a while.

A little play time.

Up and away - somebody going somewhere. Geese, too, but they were too fast and far away this time. I love to hear them and watch their formations.

Where "Once in a Blue Moon" comes from...

"Skies were brighter than usual on (this) New Year's Eve night, thanks to a full moon. The New Year's Eve full moon is what's known as a blue moon, because it's the second full moon in a month. Blue moons occur about once every two and a half years, which is the origin of the saying "once in a blue moon." (adapted) Mark at work told me this. I learn something new all the time!

Your ham looks mighty good. I'm dying to see The Blind Side, but haven't made it yet. Happy New Year to you and yours.
