Your Mama's Lap
Friday night's rain cooled everything down and perked everything up. I love a good soaking rain. Amy was home, so that was extra nice. She brought Lucy, and Oscar, naturally, just had a come-apart - he loves that cat! Saturday morning I went to Farmer's Market before Amy arrived, and bought cucumbers, squash, okra, tomatoes, bell peppers, and a cantaloup. Later Amy and I went to the auction at the Burnett property and stayed about an hour and a half, not buying one thing, but had Paul believing we'd got two chairs and a filing cabinet. "I don't know where you'll put it!" I was such a good storyteller that I had to tell him a couple of times I was teasing! She and I did enjoy visiting with many folks.
I cooked most everything I bought at the market, and we just had the best home-cooked meal. Later there was watermelon - a huge one a kind person had given to Paul. It was so big it wouldn't fit in the refrigerator, but when we cut it, it was sweet and cool from being in the house. It was like crawling up in your Mama's lap - all of us under one roof and everyone enjoying eating all those good summer vegetables. I told Amy and Paul that my cup runneth over.
