What I Did on My Day Off
Paul called me at 8:30ish to see if I was up! Imagine that! Sure I was - I got up at 7:30! I had a quick breakfast and got ready to go to Forrest City to the dentist. (Decision time on this situation in the near future...) I went by the office with the cake, which was enthusiastically received. Got hugs all around and asked, "How do you like retirement?" I. Love. It! I left only a couple of disappointed folks and will have to get a candy jar sometime, oh, and fill it, and take it to them... Sheesh!
Michael had received one set of my retirement option forms and I picked those up to look over and complete. The others should be in shortly. The new file cabinet/bookcase in his office looks great. It was only about three years getting done. They finally got cabinet-maker #3 to do this job.
I got a good check-up at the dentist's. One front tooth has been looking a little dark, and it may be dead! He looked back to '93, '94 and I'd had trouble with it then, after oral surgery, so I guess that's when it began its demise. But it took a while to discolor. It doesn't bother me, except for the color and it's not too bad right now. Think I'll keep the tooth; not wanting a plate or implant at the moment... Maybe a cap?
On the way home, I stopped at Dollar Tree and when I walked in thought I'd gone through the twilight zone. It just wasn't what it was, and is now about twice as large. Took in the floor space of another store on one side. Very nice. I got a few things and started to leave, but there was an SUV parked about 10 inches from mine and I just knew there was no way I could get in. And I could not crawl over the consoler. Please. No one in $ Tree owned the vehicle, so I tried squeezing in anyway, got the door open but still couldn't manage to get in. Went to the Chinese restaurant next door to $ Tree and a lady there responded to my query and came a moved her vehicle.
I met Beck and her cousin Honey at Colby's for lunch. Beck had an appointment in Wynne. It was full and we had to wait a while for our sandwiches. There were a lot of out-of-town folks there, at least people none of us knew, and all dressed up; Honey wondered if they weren't there for Lolly Shaver's service. Later at the service, I saw that they were.
Paul picked me up just after 2:00 and we went to the Presbyterian church, which was full by the time the service began. The pews are in a U-formation, and everyone can see everyone. It was the first time I'd sat on a parallel side, and the music loft is visible, too. The minister said that Lolly had planned her service and the order of service, which included the song, "Morning Has Broken." The words are beautiful, and I could imagine Lolly enjoying seeing the deer near their house, as I'd heard.
Later, Paul and I discussed our imminent trip to the Social Security office. There are documents in lock boxes we have to retrieve to take to their office. I couldn't find my Social Security card and looked in a few places I thought it might be. (Found the red leather key holder Paul made me in college.) After he got home he told me my card is in one of the lock boxes. I quit carrying it about the time someone advised not to put the SS number on checks.
Quick supper, and now - major excitement... Now we're watching the whole process of how crickets are raised for marketing. Who knew?
