Morticia

My daughter the mortician! A funeral home near her called her last night to tell her she has the internship position at their home for the next year. By completing the one-year internship, and one other test, she will become a licensed mortician. We're very proud of her and all the hard work she has put into this. It will be a much better career than delivering pizza at all hours of the night (although there will be late night "removals" she'll have to do), waiting on tables, or selling furniture.

The epiphany came to her at her great-uncle's funeral in July, 2004, and she started school that fall. After going to classes, one of which included ten "cases," for eighteen months straight, she is finally at the threshold of getting daily experience.

I would never have thought she'd become a licensed funeral director. Her dad thought about doing this after his teaching career, but got into politics instead. But she will be very good at it because she believes in excellence, has a compassionate heart, and is a strong person who is able to be objective when she needs to be.
