Mr. Carpenter

Our former CEO Mr. C. has been scheduled twice for goiter surgery and the doctors have postponed it again until May 1. Several years ago before he retired, he had surgery for Barrett's esophagus where part of his esophagus had to be removed. The goiter he has not is pressing on his bronchial tube and in danger of collapsing it, completely cutting off his oxygen. We learned today that this second postponement is due to the fact that he needs a CT scan with contrast, but is allergic to iodine. Mr. C. will soon be 86.

If this serious surgery has been postponed by consulting physicians who know that he is allergic to iodine and are reluctant to have him undergo a CT scan with contrast, doesn't that sound as if eating shrimp or shellfish is the same type? I was told that the CT contrast and shellfish iodine aren't the same. Nevertheless, I haven't eaten shrimp or any other shellfish in almost a year because of the scare with the CT scan last May. I went with my intuition.

There is a medication they can give him prior to CT with contrast to counteract the iodine, though. We stay in touch with him and Miss Mildred often during the year and have talked with them and sent him a card since we learned of his impending surgery.

We pray that God will take care of him and Miss Mid.
