Annual Visit
Yesterday I had my annual check-up in Jonesboro and felt at least 57 when all was done! My blood pressure was good (134/71), being in a doctor's office; blood sugar was great (83 fasting); cholesterol nothing to be alarmed about - the Good was good, and the Bad was good. Other results to follow. Dr. St. Clair is so easy to talk to and has a dry sense of humor. He takes time after the exam to sit in his office and discuss anything his patients want to ask about and to give prescription refills, which I always need. He told me since I have trouble taking the prescription calcium supplements that Tums EX is a good supplement, but be sure to take vitamin D with it for absorption of the calcium. It has a little higher calcium content than the OsCal I'm taking now, but I could increase that by one a day I suppose.
As I was sitting there, suddenly Dr. St. C. looked up and said, "You don't have glasses on! I knew there was something different about you!" We only meet once a year, yet he knew there was something different. Makes a patient feel like a person and not a chart!
I stopped by the mall and looked at purses but none suited me. I'm not crazy about the one I have, but none of the new ones suited me - style or price - except for a cream colored one, but I knew it wouldn't stay that pretty very long. I also got new make-up including some new moisturizer (green) to cut the ruddiness, which has been a problem lately. But that's a whole other story and hopefully that will settle down soon. I'm back to using the Purpose lotion and soap (all oil-free) like I've been told in the past. I know my rosacea cream is a little out of date, but I think it's helped some anyway.
Stopped by Barnes and Noble for an inhalation of book scents - just dizzying! I got three magazines and David Copperfield which I've never read. B&N edition and didn't cost much - about $8. Went to Lifeway and looked at large print Bibles, but didn't get one. Soon enough I'll have new glasses. Anyway, it's really hard for me to "move in" to a new Bible - I'm used to writing in mine now and making notes; a new one is just so - new - that I can hardly bear to write in it - even the family tree page. Office Depot and a new supply of Sharpies in lots of colors, plus those cheap little composition books with college ruled lines, which you hardly ever see. Most are wide ruled. I ate lunch at Arby's - their chicken salad sandwich is so good. I ate half and took the other half home for lunch today at work. The cashier asked me if I am a senior and I said I sure am - see all this gray hair? She said cheerfully, "That don't matter - some young folks you see with gray hair!" I got a 62-cent discount.
My annual physical is always "my" day. Teri and I used to make our appointments to go at the same time, packing our little snackie things - apple slices, crackers, Diet Coke (her), Dr. Pepper (me). Was a fun day. It was yesterday, but I always remember - this was the 3rd visit that I've gone alone.
