The First Year

Your flowers were beautiful on January 15, 2007. Unfortunately, someone thought they needed them more than we needed to see them there in remembrance of you. Richard took them around 1:00 P.M., and by 3:00 they were gone - vanished! I'm glad he got a picture though.

I just read Tara's entry for January 16. Yes, we are doing okay. Indeed, who would have ever thought it? It is as if that first year we were anticipating every event, holding our breaths, every birthday, holiday and even ordinary days that were without you - wondering how we would do it, how we would feel. We missed you terribly. We also survived. Will the next year, and the years following, be so edgy? Of course, major holidays and events will always emphasize your absence... But we got to January 15, 2007, and you didn't return. You didn't come back to us. So I guess by now we know you won't. We accept it better, but with no less ache in our hearts. Now we will look back and say, "Has it already been a year? Has it already been 5 years?" In 5 years, your granddaughter Emmy Ruth will be starting kindergarten.

Tara did well at her shower on Saturday. There was a really nice turn out in spite of the weather. (It rained for 3 days, now it is in the mid-20's, but thankfully no ice on the roads.) Emmy received so many pretty little things - someone said it was the first Razorback baby shower they had ever seen!
