Springfield, MO

Amy called before 10:00 A.M. this morning. She was on her way to Springfield, MO, for a removal.

This was her first day of her internship and this is the assignment she got. After a couple of calls to me and at least one to her dad, she must be pretty well on her way with the directions she got before leaving, and the Mapquest information I gave her. "If you don't see West Plains pretty soon after Walnut Ridge, you're on the wrong highway," I told her. After she had stopped for a bathroom break and something to eat, she felt better. She estimated that she'd return home to Memphis by midnight tonight. Time is of the essence and no time for an overnight stay, or naps. I told her to drink a lot of coffee or Dr. Pepper.

But what an adventure, to be embarking on a new career, even this year-long internship that won't pay much now, and to be young and unafraid, (but respectful of being a solitary female), and on a journey of service to some family who is waiting for their loved one to be brought home for burial. These are the kinds of things you don't really think about, even if it is your loved one; someone has to go get the person. And that someone is a loved one to another family.

God, protect her, guide her safely. Help her stay awake as the day draws to an end and it is late and she is tired. Strengthen her and help her even enjoy the trip.
