Thanksgiving Day

Quiet, relaxing day, many things to be thankful for... Paul worked in the yard, blowing leaves and bagging them with the mower; I unhemmed a pair of pants I'd hemmed just last week (trying to save this pair of pants, I think they were not sized correctly, or maybe it's just me; made a pecan pie to go with the sweet potato-pineapple one I made last night (Blackberry Creek recipe). We ate at Kelley's around 12:30, the buffet, and it was very good, and we ate very much. Too much, in fact. I wasn't hungry for supper, Paul's already lying down, and the pies remain uncut. I also made two loaves of banana nut bread for next Saturday's SS party and to take to as a gift to a friend out of town. (These are in the freezer.) I haven't baked that much in quite a while. Talked to both brothers, Mike and Steve, sister Sher. Mike and Marsha were going to her mother's in Alabama; Steve ate with some friends. Amy was busy and we texted a few times; we'd talked last night. She said she'd gotten in touch with a college girlfriend. Sher had a houseful - I asked her to send pictures of Nate. Mike is going to meet Paul in Tupelo and go with him to see the Egg Bowl* Saturday. (MS State vs Ole Miss)

Oscar and I took the requisite Thanksgiving afternoon walk through the rustly leaves and bright sun. Kids were out on scooters and bikes, sans jackets, and I had on three layers plus earmuffs and gloves. Nice walk. Remembering other Thanksgivings when we'd all be at Mama's gathered at her little table (four of us lucky enough to get our plates full first, but leaving her, as the "matriarch" a place; the rest of us sitting in odd chairs and on the sofa. Paul's family was going to Aunt Ginny's today. I sent Mama Nick and Aunt Ginny cards, and we'd talked earlier, too.

I napped slightly, read some (Have a Little Faith by Mitch Albom), watched a little of the Dallas football game on TV. Then I fiddled around with the Photoshop and don't do it enough to get a banner done fast. This one took a while. Maybe I'll remember how next time. This is the front of Pray Pottery in Iuka, decorated for Christmas. (Sher asked me to get her "one of those long pottery things like Mama got us for Christmas one year," the next time I'm in Iuka, as her cat Minnie knocked hers off and broke it. They're just the right length for paintbrushes.)

Friday at work after Thanksgiving is usually still pretty quiet. I think London will be off Monday, so I may be cashiering more than scanning. Then the weekend. I can sort of overlook that Friday, just a hold-your-breath kind of day, waiting for Saturday, a Marble...

*I asked Paul why it's called the Egg Bowl and he didn't know. So I Googled it and here's how it originated and came to be so named.

And thanks to you readers - some I know, some I don't. What better way to put two of my hobbies together... writing and making pictures. It makes me happy and often keeps me writing to know that someone actually reads this stuff! Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
