One Step at a Time
Thursday's appointment at the cardiologist's was pretty routine. EKG was fine and Dr. Szatkowski said he wouldn't have to see me for two years unless I had a problem. Prescription filled and away we went. We drove over to Amy's so Paul could pick up a ladder he'd taken to her house when he was doing odd jobs. She'd made chocolate chip cookies, still warm and so good! I didn't get out - there were all those steps to her door for one thing and we just stopped for the ladder. By this time, I was ready to get home, too.
Paul took me to PT Friday and it went just fine. Later in the day I realized I'd probably overdone the exercises. I knew the sciatic nerve was lying in wait for any provocation - had already had a preview of that while still in the big black foam boot and how my foot was situation. There were also different positions I could/can put my leg in resting on a pillow that relieves the pain and at the same time probably causing the muscle to "draw" up. So after some stretching exercises, walking on treadmill backward, for a different heel/toe movement, and pulling against the tension of the new "red" band, every nerve in my leg from hip to toe was on fire. I took Lortab last night but so far this morning I haven't taken any.
Gradually I'm moving things out of my "nest" in the living room. This morning I dried my hair in the bathroom instead of the living room, so the hair dryer will go back to its cabinet drawer. There are fewer things on the living room table, but the book/magazine stack is still handy beside the couch. I keep thinking I'll go back to the bed, but after 6 weeks, my narrow space on the couch seems safer. I'm afraid I'll flop my foot around too much in the bed whereas on the sofa it doesn't have much wiggle room.
I called the library yesterday and asked to be put on the list for Pat Conroy's new book South of Broad. Last night I watched "Prince of Tides" based on his book; I saw it the first time when it came out about 1991? Nick Nolte wasn't bad looking almost 20 years ago, but weren't we all? lol
I put some white beans on to cook and maybe I can get Paul to get some buttermilk and I'll make some cornbread. Yum yum!
