"Dada Nick"

Today is Paul's daddy's birthday - he was born in 1910. Amy called him Dada Nick - that's the way her little toddler self fashioned the name and that's what stuck. He was a sweet, gentle man and he's been gone twenty-two years. When he died, April of 1987, dogwoods were in full bloom and his long funeral procession was police-escorted from Iuka to Corinth, a distance of about 20 miles.

I have a good professional photo of him that I looked for last night and could not find. But I will. I'll put it here later. The photographer at David's wedding made really good portrait photos of both him and Mama Nick. And that brings to mind - Amy was the flower girl, age 5 I think. She wore a long pale pink dress.

We miss him. Amy was crazy about him; first grandchild. He liked to care for his little Shetland pony and Amy was usually right beside him when he'd go feed or get her out for a walk. There's a picture of that, too. I think I may have posted it before, but I'll put that here again. There's another favorite picture we have of him at Christmas - the one when Amy got her doll that blew bubblegum bubbles - and he's holding the doll up next to his cheek hugging her. So many memories. I haven't looked at old pictures in a while. I should. But I always end up crying...

Happy Birthday, Dada Nick.
