MEMORIAL DAY

We're asked to pause at 3:00 P.M. this afternoon in a moment of silence to remember those who have served and are serving in our nation's military forces. My father was in the Navy, as was my uncle and stepfather. My ex-brother-in-law was in the Air Force; a cousin served in the Air Force. That cousin's dad was in the Navy, Aunt Shirley's husband Ray. Sher has worked on military bases over 25 years in non-military jobs, but nevertheless an important part of military support. Without these and so many thousands of others, I wouldn't have the freedom to sit here and "blog" about - whatever. I respect and honor them for serving our country and helping keep us free.

When the different ceremonies are televised, I'm awed by the dignity with which the different branches of service conduct themselves, from the soldier who gives a video hello to family back home, to those who escort their fallen comrades back home to American soil at Dover, to those who guard the Tomb of the Unknown at Arlington. They serve with respect and dedication.

Thank you.
